Deschutes Abyss v2.0

It's been almost a year since the first release of Deschutes' amazing imperial stout, and we still get calls almost daily asking if we have any left. Sadly, you'd be hard pressed to find a bottle anywhere other than someone's cellar, but good news is on the horizon.
A little birdie with good connections informed me that the new batch of Abyss will be ready in time for a December '07 release, meaning you've got less than 4 months of waiting before you can lay your anxious little paws on them!
I'm going to make a prediction right now; every beer geek in Oregon (and many from outside the region) will have this baby on their holiday wish list, so be sure to snatch it up quickly or you'll be left out in the cold.

I missed out on this last year. Looking forward to trying ti this year. I wonder if it really will live up to the hype. It's not the only oak aged beer or stout around. I bet it's not all that different from Oaked Aged Yeti. Look forward to a side by side comparison.
I'm not sure if it will live up to the hype generated by last years' batch, but the hype was well deserved. The beauty of the Abyss was that only 1/3 of the batch was aged in bourbon barrels, so all the flavors were well integrated instead of punching you in the face with bourbon like many barrel-aged stouts.
A side-by-side with Oak Yeti would be interesting. I think the Yeti is just aged on "oak chips" instead of a used bourbon barrel, so it's lacking the subtle bourbon and vanilla notes, but it's still a darn fine brew. I guess we'll find out in December, eh?

Hype be damned, I tried this last year before it had gained the crazy rep it has today & it deserves every ounce of praise it's received. Deschutes absolutely outdid themselves. I hope I can get some this year - I'm sure the demand is crazy!
