Sad News For PDX: Rose and Raindrop to Close
The following breaking news was just posted to the Oregon Brew Crew listserv:
"We're doing the BJCP classes at Rose and Raindrop this year and I got terrible news from Tom Field last night:
Tom found out on Tuesday that he's lost his lease as of December 31st this year. The landlord informed him that someone made an offer that's roughly double what he's paying. The landlord can't tell him who's taking the space, but he was told it won't be a restaurant or bar anymore. Apparently it's to be renovated/gutted and turned into something else.
All of this means no more Rose and Raindrop after December 31st. As a beer community, we should do what we can to make Tom's and R&R's last several months as prosperous as possible. Tom will likely go into another venture, but that's to be determined.
All in all, a bad day for Portland (and not just for the beer community)."

Wow...I don't even know what to say at this point other than to agree with Bill; if this situation is truly unavoidable then we should all do what we can to make sure the place goes out with a bang.
If there are any further developments to the story we'll be sure to keep you updated.

Truely a sad day for beer lovers and the entire Portland Metro area...
I can tell you one thing.... Whoever bought the lease will not be successful and the Owner of the building should respect the current occupancy and it's success.... Greed is not worth losing an Institution like the Rose and Raindrop.

I can sum my (and likely others) thoughts up in two words: This sucks.
It sucks though for two reasons, 1) that a great place such as Rose & Raindrop will be closing it's doors. Since first discovering the place a few years ago, I've loved it, and each visit has been wonderful. 2) that the greed of a landlord would be the direct cause of such a closure. I've seen it before (Hogan's Goat Pizza) and each time I shake my head.
This is terribly wrong for Portland. That space should be a public house. Change is not good in this case. Selfish, souless business dealings will rob us of one of the most beautiful places Portland has to offer and one less place to enjoy craft beers. This is wrong and we should be outraged!!!
